1. What does a School Counselor do?
A School Counselor is a member of the education team who assists all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development.
2. What is Guidance Curriculum?
Classroom lessons on topics related to caring community, friendship skills, social skills, expression and management of feelings, conflict resolution skills, communication skills, academic success strategies, college/career readiness, life skills.
3. Does it mean something is wrong with my child if she/he talks with the School Counselor?
No. The School Counselor assists all students with being successful in school. The School Counselor is visible throughout all areas of the school; interacting with students, teaching, and assisting students with social skills, problem-solving skills and promoting caring community.
4. Will the School Counselor share private student or family information with my child's teacher?
No. The only time the School Counselor will share private student or family information is with permission from student and/or parents.
5. How do I arrange for my child to see the School Counselor?
Parents may contact the School Counselor at any time via email, telephone, appointment. A Parent Permission form must be signed for student to receive ongoing, individual counseling services.
